In-person · Allentown, PAElectrical safety training in Allentown, PA
The Lehigh Valley runs on hospitals, a heavy truck plant and a growing base of fulfillment and air cargo operations, and data center developers are now filing for some of its biggest sites. We train the electrical crews who maintain that mix, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Allentown when you ask.
Private employers in Pennsylvania are inspected by federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Pennsylvania electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Allentown crew
Crews we train in and around Allentown: hospitals and health systems, vehicle and equipment manufacturing, distribution and air cargo, industrial gases and products, data center construction, schools and local government.
What the class covers for Allentown crews
Fulfillment centers like Amazon's Route 33 building in Palmer Township run conveyors, sortation and battery charging rooms that maintenance techs service under time pressure. We cover which tasks are electrical work and who on the crew is qualified to do them.
A truck plant runs robots, welders and drives off plant-owned distribution. We teach lockout, verification of absence of voltage and the risk assessment that comes before opening any panel on a live line.
With two large hospital systems in the valley, planning an outage around patient care is a regular job. We cover how to choose between a planned outage and justified energized work and how to document either one.
Allentown issues its own electrical license, and Pennsylvania has no state license. Crews that work in the city and the surrounding townships carry different credentials, so your qualification records do the real work.

Pennsylvania: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: federal OSHA
Pennsylvania has no OSHA-approved state plan. Private employers in the Lehigh Valley are under federal OSHA, which keeps an area office in Allentown. State and local government workers have no OSHA coverage and fall under the Pennsylvania General Safety Law of 1937.
Licensing: Allentown sets its own
Pennsylvania has no statewide electrician license. The City of Allentown issues an electrical license through its Building Office, with board approval before an ICC standard exam and renewal every calendar year.
Where NFPA 70E fits
OSHA does not enforce NFPA 70E. It is the consensus standard employers use to show how they meet OSHA 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K, and OSHA can cite the General Duty Clause when a recognized electrical hazard goes uncontrolled.
Allentown's electrical work environment
The two biggest employers in the Lehigh Valley are its hospital systems. St. Luke's and Lehigh Valley Health Network top the regional employer list, ahead of Amazon, Walmart and Mack Trucks. Hospital electricians here work on emergency power, transfer equipment and patient care loads that cannot simply be switched off for a convenient outage.
Manufacturing is still close to the center. Mack Trucks builds its North American trucks at its Lehigh Valley Operations plant in Lower Macungie, and Air Products, B. Braun, Olympus, Lutron and Crayola all have major operations in the region. Amazon and FedEx run distribution here too, and Lehigh Valley International Airport moved roughly 302 million pounds of cargo in 2025 with FedEx and Amazon Air flights.
Data centers are the newest arrival, and so far mostly on paper. An application for a 2.6 million square foot campus sits on Air Products' former 194-acre headquarters on Hamilton Boulevard, Atlas Industrial is eyeing a larger site in South Whitehall, and Peron Development and J.G. Petrucci announced a Lower Mount Bethel campus in February 2026. In Upper Mount Bethel, Talen Energy's Slate Belt Holdings filed for up to 23 buildings with a 480 MW substation, and is challenging the township's zoning in court.
Data center proposals across the Lehigh Valley
None of these campuses is operating yet. They show where electrical construction work is likely to concentrate if approvals come through.
| Site | What is there | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Upper Macungie data center Applicant not named (Air Products site) | 2.6 million sq ft proposal on the 194-acre former Air Products headquarters. | Planned |
| South Whitehall site Atlas Industrial | About 5.1 million sq ft being eyed across from Parkland High School. | Planned |
| Lower Mount Bethel Tech Center Peron Development / J.G. Petrucci | Roughly 450-acre campus in Northampton County announced in February 2026. | Planned |
| Slate Belt campus Slate Belt Holdings (Talen Energy / River Pointe) | Up to 23 buildings and a 480 MW substation on 754 acres in Upper Mount Bethel. | Planned |
| Lower Mount Bethel Energy Talen Energy | 607 MW natural gas plant in service since 2004, near the Slate Belt site. | Operating |
PPL Electric Utilities and the Lehigh Valley grid
PPL Electric Utilities is headquartered in Allentown and serves about 1.5 million customers across 29 counties in central and eastern Pennsylvania, over roughly 51,000 miles of lines. Most contractors in the valley work with a single utility, which makes service coordination simpler than in split territories.
Large new loads are changing that picture. The Slate Belt proposal pairs a 480 MW onsite substation with a site next to Talen's 607 MW Lower Mount Bethel gas plant, and Amazon reportedly walked away from the same land over power availability. For your crews, more customer-owned substations and medium-voltage gear means more work on the owner's side of the meter.
