In-person · Ashburn, VAElectrical safety training in Ashburn, VA
Ashburn sits at the center of Data Center Alley, where Loudoun County counts about 233 data center buildings and permits more every year. We train the electricians, commissioning agents and critical facilities technicians who build and run them, at your site or in an in-person class we set up in Ashburn when you ask.
Virginia runs its own OSHA-approved state plan. Private employers here are inspected by Virginia Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH), Virginia Department of Labor and Industry; standards adopted by the Virginia Safety and Health Codes Board, not federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Virginia electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Ashburn crew
Crews we train in and around Ashburn: data center construction, data center operations, generator and switchgear service, utility and substation contractors, telecom and interconnection, schools and public facilities.
What the class covers for Ashburn crews
Ashburn buildings are energized in phases, so a new data hall often shares lineups and utility feeds with halls already in production. We cover how to set boundaries and control access when half a building is live and half is still a job site.
Northern Virginia has more than 4,000 permitted standby diesel generators. Paralleling switchgear, ATS testing and load bank work are routine here, and each task brings crews close to energized parts.
Virginia licenses journeyman and master electricians through DPOR, and that license covers installation to the NEC. NFPA 70E qualification is a separate employer decision, and we show you how to document it for each worker.
Colocation operators, tenants, general contractors and electrical subs all share Ashburn campuses. We cover who is responsible for what when one company's technician works in another company's electrical room.

Virginia: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: VOSH
Virginia runs an OSHA-approved state plan through the Virginia Occupational Safety and Health program at the Department of Labor and Industry. It covers private employers and state and local government. Virginia's Overhead High Voltage Line Safety Act adds a ten-foot rule with advance notice to the line operator.
Licensing: DPOR tradesman cards
Virginia licenses journeyman and master electricians statewide through DPOR's Board for Contractors, and electrical contractors hold a separate Class A, B or C license. Renewal requires 3 hours of continuing education per two-year term, all code focused.
Where NFPA 70E fits
NFPA 70E is not an OSHA or VOSH regulation. It is the consensus standard employers and inspectors use to show how the electrical requirements in OSHA 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K are met.
Ashburn's electrical work environment
Ashburn is an unincorporated community of about 46,000 people in eastern Loudoun County, and it holds the densest cluster of data centers anywhere. Equinix runs its Ashburn campus here, Digital Realty fills Digital Loudoun Plaza, and NTT, Vantage and Aligned all operate campuses a short drive apart. AOL put its headquarters in Ashburn in 1996 and UUNet followed in 1998, which is how so much of the early internet ended up in Loudoun.
The build has not slowed. Loudoun permitted more than 10 million square feet of data center space in 2025, its biggest single year, and buildings permitted since 2023 average about 339,000 square feet. The county ended by-right data center development in early 2025, so new projects now go through public hearings and board votes.
For an Ashburn electrician the work is almost all mission critical. A crew can spend the morning pulling feeders in a new shell and the afternoon switching a UPS in an operating hall down the road. Both jobs carry energized-work exposure.
Dominion Energy and NOVEC
Dominion Energy serves most of Ashburn and the eastern Loudoun data center corridor. The Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) serves other parts of the county, so contractors moving around Loudoun deal with two utilities and two sets of interconnection practices.
Power, more than land, sets the pace now. Dominion's 2022 delivery constraint in eastern Loudoun left multi-year waits for new service (Data Center Frontier), and the utility plans about $50 billion in capital projects from 2025 to 2029, much of it for data center load and new 500 kV transmission. That means more substations and more high-voltage switching inside campus fences.
Who we train in Ashburn and Loudoun County
Electrical subs, GC safety staff and commissioning agents on new Loudoun builds, where gear is energized in stages around other trades.
Critical facilities technicians maintaining UPS systems, switchgear, PDUs and battery rooms in colocation and enterprise halls.
Field service crews testing standby generators, paralleling gear and transfer switches across hundreds of sites.
Line and substation crews building new capacity for Dominion and NOVEC, where 1910.269 applies.
Carrier and network technicians in the meet-me rooms and fiber facilities that make Ashburn a peering hub.
Loudoun County Public Schools, Loudoun Water and county buildings, all covered by VOSH as public employers.
