In-person · Detroit, MIElectrical safety training in Detroit, MI
Detroit builds electric trucks in Hamtramck and Grand Cherokees on Mack Avenue, refines crude in the southwest corner of the city and is now wiring a gigawatt-scale AI campus in Washtenaw County. We train the electrical crews who keep those plants and builds energized safely, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Detroit when you ask.
Michigan runs its own OSHA-approved state plan. Private employers here are inspected by Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, not federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Michigan electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Detroit crew
Crews we train in and around Detroit: automotive and ev, refining, steel, utilities and nuclear, data center construction, public sector.
What the class covers for Detroit crews
Battery packs and high-voltage dc test stations add shock and arc hazards that look different from ac plant power. We cover dc approach boundaries, insulated tools and how to verify absence of voltage on battery systems.
The refinery and the Dearborn finishing lines run large MCCs and substations that seldom see a full outage. We teach how to plan work so energized tasks are justified, permitted and kept to diagnostics.
Saline Township will energize switchgear, UPS systems and generators building by building while construction continues around them. The 2-Day Intensive gives the handoff from construction to energized equipment real time.
Michigan inspectors read MIOSHA Part 40 and related parts rather than federal citations. We show how to cross-reference your written program so it matches what an inspector in Michigan actually cites.

Michigan: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: MIOSHA
Michigan runs a full OSHA-approved state plan through MIOSHA, part of the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. It covers private employers and state and local government, so Detroit city crews and DTE contractors answer to the same agency, using MIOSHA's own part numbers rather than federal ones.
Licensing: state and city
LARA's Bureau of Construction Codes licenses journeyman and master electricians statewide, with 8,000 hours over four years for a journeyman. Detroit's Buildings, Safety Engineering and Environmental Department also issues its own electrical licenses. Code update courses are required only after a new code is adopted.
Where NFPA 70E fits
MIOSHA does not enforce NFPA 70E. Its Part 40 mirrors the federal 1910.331 through 1910.335 work practice rules, and Michigan employers use NFPA 70E to show how they meet them and to answer a general duty citation for a recognized hazard.
Detroit's electrical work environment
GM's Factory ZERO on the Detroit and Hamtramck line builds the GMC Hummer EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV. A few miles east, Stellantis converted the old Mack Avenue engine complex into the Detroit Assembly Complex for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, with 4,103 workers in 2022. EV assembly adds high-voltage battery handling and charging equipment to the robotics, conveyors and plant distribution that auto electricians already maintain.
Southwest Detroit is heavy industry. Marathon's Detroit refinery processes 146,000 barrels per calendar day, and Cleveland-Cliffs' Dearborn Works keeps its pickling, tandem cold mill and galvanizing lines running even though its blast furnace has been idle since 2025, with a reline scheduled for 2027. The Gordie Howe International Bridge opened to traffic on July 27, 2026, and Ford reopened Michigan Central Station in Corktown in June 2024 after more than $900 million in renovations.
The newest load is computing. DTE has 1.4 GW contracted for the Saline Township campus Related Digital is building for Oracle and OpenAI, a project now valued at more than $43 billion with over 2,500 construction jobs. DTE has also filed a 1 GW agreement with Google for a planned data center near Detroit, part of a pipeline the utility put at more than 8 GW in July 2026.
Auto plants, refining and new power load around Detroit
These are the plants, infrastructure and data center builds that employ the most electrical workers in metro Detroit right now.

DTE Energy and the Southeast Michigan grid
DTE Electric serves about 2.3 million customers in Southeast Michigan and the Thumb, and DTE Gas serves about 1.3 million more across the state. Its own generation includes the Monroe Power Plant, whose four units came online between 1971 and 1974, and Fermi 2, with ITC Transmission maintaining the high-voltage lines that tie them together.
Data center contracts are reshaping that system. Up to $2 billion in DTE capital is tied to the Saline Township load alone, and the Google agreement would add renewable generation, 480 MW of storage and demand response. For contractors, that means new substations and interconnections, and plenty of customer-owned medium-voltage gear where your crews, not the utility, carry the arc flash risk.
Who we train in Detroit and Southeast Michigan
Maintenance electricians and battery technicians at Factory ZERO, the Mack Avenue complex and supplier plants.
Electrical and instrument crews at Marathon's Detroit refinery and its turnaround contractors.
Finishing line and substation electricians at Dearborn Works, plus the crews who will reline the furnace.
Contractors working DTE substations, Fermi 2 outages and customer interconnections.
Electrical subs and commissioning teams on the Saline Township campus and the planned Google site.
City, county and authority electricians who are covered by MIOSHA, unlike public workers in Ohio or Indiana.
