In-person · Kingman, AZElectrical safety training in Kingman, AZ
Kingman runs a Nucor steel mill backed by Arizona's largest behind-the-meter battery, sits on a BNSF main line carrying 100 or more trains a day, and is the crossroads of I-40 and US 93. We train the electrical crews who keep Mohave County's mills, plants and power sites running, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Kingman when you ask.
Arizona runs its own OSHA-approved state plan. Private employers here are inspected by Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH), Industrial Commission of Arizona, not federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. Arizona electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Kingman crew
Crews we train in and around Kingman: steel, battery storage and solar, power generation, manufacturing and food, rail and logistics, utilities and public employers.
What the class covers for Kingman crews
Steel mills run high-current furnace transformers, cranes and large motor loads. We cover risk assessment for medium voltage equipment and racking breakers safely.
A 200 MWh battery stores energy that lockout alone does not remove. We cover DC hazards, stored energy and how to establish a safe condition on battery and inverter systems.
Rail yards, signal equipment and transload facilities put workers near overhead lines and outdoor gear. We train non-electrical staff on approach boundaries and when to stop.
Solar and storage sites in Mohave County are often far from help. We teach job planning, emergency response and communication for crews working energized equipment at remote sites.

Arizona: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: ADOSH
Mohave County employers fall under ADOSH, Arizona's state plan, which also covers city, county and school district workers. Contractors who cross into Nevada at Laughlin or into California at Needles move into different state plans.
Licensing: ROC contractor licenses
Arizona's Registrar of Contractors licenses the electrical contracting business, not the electrician. With no state journeyman card, Kingman employers carry the full burden of documenting who is qualified.
Where NFPA 70E fits
OSHA does not enforce NFPA 70E itself. Kingman employers use it to show how they meet the electrical work practice rules ADOSH applies under OSHA 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K, and a recognized hazard can still draw a General Duty Clause citation.
Kingman's electrical work environment
Nucor's Kingman steel mill is adding a new electric arc furnace that is expected to bring capacity to about 600,000 tons a year. An arc furnace swings the electrical load hard enough that Ameresco built a 50 MW, 200 MWh battery of 58 Tesla Megapack units at Nucor's substation to smooth it. The battery reached commercial operation in October 2025 under a 20-year agreement and is operated by the Arizona Electric Power Cooperative.
The Kingman Airport Industrial Park, about 9 miles northeast of town on a former World War II airfield, holds a General Cable plant and the Kingman Terminal Railroad that opened in 2012. Desert De Oro Foods employs about 1,042 people and American Woodmark about 513, with Cardinal Health and Kingman Regional Medical Center also among the largest employers.
Energy development surrounds the city. The Griffith Generating Station in Mohave County is adding 2 MW of behind-the-meter solar to cut its own auxiliary load, and its owners plan a 25 MW solar and 25 MW battery project nearby. Ameresco is also delivering a 25 MW solar plant at Kingman that is scheduled to start up in 2026.

UniSource, the co-ops and power that serves the mill
UniSource Energy Services provides electric service in Mohave County, including Kingman and Lake Havasu City, and serves more than 107,000 electric customers across its Arizona territory. Mohave Electric Cooperative serves other parts of the county, including the Nucor substation where the Ameresco battery sits.
The Nucor battery shows how industrial power has changed. The steel mill, a cooperative grid operator and a third-party battery owner all have equipment at one substation. When a contractor needs an outage there, the switching plan has to name each owner's equipment, each source and who is allowed to operate it.
