In-person · Secaucus, NJElectrical safety training in Secaucus, NJ
Secaucus sits in the Meadowlands a few miles from Manhattan, and Equinix, CoreSite and H5 run a cluster of the New York market's data centers here. We train the crews who build, maintain and run them across Northern New Jersey, at your facility or in an in-person class we set up in Secaucus when you ask.
New Jersey runs a state plan for public employees only. Private employers are inspected by federal OSHA. Every class is live, on the 2027 edition of NFPA 70E, and taught by a Certified Safety Professional. New Jersey electrical safety training requirements →

Four ways to train your Secaucus crew
Crews we train in and around Secaucus: data center operations, data center construction and expansion, logistics and warehousing, transit, hospitality and retail, public employers.
What the class covers for Secaucus crews
Buildings like NY4 serve financial, media and enterprise customers whose equipment stays on. Maintenance happens around live load, so we cover how to plan it, when energized work is justified and how to document the decision.
Every data hall here depends on UPS systems and batteries that keep holding energy after the upstream breaker opens. Our 2-Day Intensive spends real time on DC and stored-energy hazards for the technicians who maintain them.
The Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors now licenses Class A journeyman electricians and is phasing in licenses for apprentices and wiremen who work for licensed contractors. A state license still leaves NFPA 70E qualification to you as the employer.
A colocation building can have the operator's facility team, tenant contractors and outside vendors in the same electrical rooms. We cover how host and contract employers divide responsibility when several of them touch energized equipment.

New Jersey: what applies to your crews
Enforcement: federal OSHA and PEOSH
New Jersey's OSHA-approved state plan, Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health (PEOSH), covers state and local government workers only. Private employers in Secaucus, including data center operators and their contractors, are under federal OSHA.
Licensing: contractor and journeyman
The Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors, in the Division of Consumer Affairs, licenses electrical contractors and issues business permits. It also licenses Class A journeyman electricians and is phasing in licensing for apprentices and Class B wiremen employed by licensed contractors.
Where NFPA 70E fits
NFPA 70E is a consensus standard, not an OSHA regulation. Employers and inspectors use it to show how the electrical requirements in OSHA 1910 Subpart S and 1926 Subpart K are met, and OSHA can cite the General Duty Clause for recognized arc flash and shock hazards.
Secaucus's electrical work environment
Secaucus is an island in the New Jersey Meadowlands, bounded by the Hackensack River and two creeks. Its closeness to New York City, lower costs and storm resiliency have drawn more than a dozen data centers to town. Equinix alone runs five buildings here, including NY4 on Secaucus Road.
The Northern New Jersey market reaches well past Secaucus. Equinix also operates NY1 in Newark and NY7 in North Bergen, QTS runs facilities in Jersey City, and CoreWeave has started building on the former Merck campus in Kenilworth. JLL now describes New Jersey as an emerging top-five U.S. data center market.
Outside the data halls, Secaucus is a freight town. UPS operates here, and a CSX and Norfolk Southern intermodal terminal moves loads between trains and trucks. NJ Transit's Secaucus Junction connects the agency's two northern rail networks.
PSE&G and the PJM grid
PSE&G delivers electricity in Secaucus. New Jersey is part of the PJM grid, the same regional market that serves Pennsylvania, Maryland and Northern Virginia.
Power is the constraint here. JLL reports that PSEG capacity upgrade requests have reached record levels, with lead times of three to seven years, and very little contiguous space of 2 MW or more is coming available in the near term. Expansions inside existing buildings put crews to work next to switchgear that is already carrying load.
